Graduates who 30 years ago shunned a public-sector job because they thought they would be financially better off in the private sector badly miscalculated.

Research from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) The Tortoise and The Hare:
PwC traces the careers of two fictitious 1981 graduates, by the age of 49 their financial fortunes cross and the civil servant is much better off for the last 30 years of his life.

It’s a striking illustration of the long-term value of job security and public-sector final-salary pensions
